Gilda Radner is one of America's comic legends. This DVD contains her 1979 stage show which includes many her famous characters.
In 1979 Gilda Radner brought all her characters to one place, The Winter Garden Theater in New York. This DVD not only contains her onstage show, but also takes viewers back stage to see the preparation before the show started and during set and costume changes. Gilda Live Joined by Father Guido Sarducci, Gilda Radner’s hilarious characters prove that funny things never go out of style. Judy Miller, the bored little Brownie girl, puts on her own show in the comfort of her bedroom. Later Ronda and the Rondettes sing a tribute to the about-to-be-banned saccharine, the sweet substance that keeps their hips from getting big. Candy Slice, the boozing and drug using rock singer sings a tribute to Mick Jagger. Lisa Loopner idolizes Martin Hamlish with the song from The Way We Were. Miss Emily Litella shares a story about a Little Kingdom with her class. Gilda plays Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci. And the highlight of the show is Gilda’s most famous alter ego, Roseanne Roseannadanna, who tells the story of interviewing for her first job and talking with Walter Cronkite. Gilda Radner was a comic genius, but she was also quite a good singer. In this show Gilda Live, she sings "Let's Talk Dirty to the Animals", "I Love To Be Unhappy", and "Honey (Touch Me With My Clothes On)". Father Guido Sarducci has a plan for a five-minute university because he says after five years, everything students remember from college is only about five minutes of information. His curriculum is hysterical, but eerily honest. Don Novello plays his character to perfection. This chain-smoking priest works for the Vatican gossip newspaper L’ossercatore Romano and has some fun observations about the United States. Gilda RadnerGilda Radner is considered one of the best comediennes of the 20th century. Not only is she outrageously funny, but the characters she created have become part of history. Radner was a member of the Saturday Night Live team from 1975-1980. She was one of the original cast members which included Chevy Chase, John Belushi, Dan Aykoyd, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman and Jane Curtin. In 1989 Gilda Radner lost her battle with ovarian cancer. Her death was a loss to the entertainment industry, and comedy in particular. But thanks to technology, she can still be enjoyed. Gilda Life is a funny collection of some of her most famous characters. As she used to say, “It’s always something.” If it’s not one thing it’s another, if it’s not this it’s that. Gilda Live is part of the Warner Bros. Archive Collection.
